Monica Alandete-Saez is Director of Analysis & Education at PIPRA and she is a Registered Patent Agent to practice law before the US Patent and Trademark Office (Registration #73260). She was born in Valencia, Spain. She obtained a B.Sc. degree in biochemistry at the University of Valencia, Spain in 1999. She moved to England to complete a M.Sc. in plant biotechnology at the University of Sussex, Brighton and a Ph.D. in plant molecular biology at the University of Nottingham (UK). She completed two postdoctoral positions at the University of California Berkeley and Davis between 2006 and 2009, from which she published research papers in leading scientific journals such as Science and Gene & Development. She joined PIPRA in 2009. Her team creates Patent Landscapes and Freedom-to-Operate reports to facilitate strategic decision-making in technology protection and commercialization. She provides leadership on the educational programs in PIPRA, including strategic management in implementing a platform of activities that supports training and capacity building programs targeting research institutions related to intellectual property management and technology transfer. She also organizes international courses and workshops on intellectual property and technology transfer to promote innovation, as it is the case of the Licensing Academy held every summer in the campus of UC Davis.
